How to set up a VPN in Windows,When and how to use the VPN client built into Windows.

VPN (virtual private network) technology lets a computer using a public internet connection join a private network by way of a secure “tunnel” between that machine and the network. .

For the most part, VPN connections are handled by custom software such as the OpenVPN client or Cisco AnyConnect.

Another option that’s generally supported by most virtual private networks is to use Microsoft’s built-in VPN client. This is useful when some VPNs don’t provide their own client or if you want to use a VPN protocol not supported by your VPN’s client such as IKEv2.

The downside to using the built-in client is that you have to select a specific server to use as opposed to jumping between different locations the way you can with a commercial VPN service. On the other hand, most employer-supplied VPNs will offer a limited number of servers you can connect to, which makes using this client ideal.

Step 1 :- on the Cortana search bar or button on the taskbar and type vpn.

Step 2 :-  The top choice should be Change virtual private networks (VPN). Alternatively, open the Settings app and go to Network & Internet > VPN.

Step 3:- At the top of the VPN screen in the Settings app, click Add a VPN connection.


Step 4 :- In the screen that appears, enter the details for your VPN connection. Under “VPN provider” click on the drop-down menu, and select Windows (built-in). This will also change “VPN type” to Automatic, and “Type of sign-in info” to User name and password.

Step 5 :- Next fill out the “Connection name” and “Server name or address.” These vary based on your VPN provider—whether a third-party service or an employer. For this example, we’re using Acevpn, a clientless VPN service that supports various connection types such as IKEv2, L2TP, and PPTP.

Step 6 :- Scroll down this screen and you’ll see a spot to enter your username and password for the VPN—again provided by your VPN service. Once the information is entered, click Save, and close the Settings app.

Step 7:- Click the Wi-Fi icon in the system tray on your taskbar, and select your newly created VPN connection, which should be right at the top of the list. It should automatically start to connect, and if all goes well the connection process should happen relatively quickly.

The above process works for the easier VPN connection types such as PPTP and L2TP, but if you want to use IKEv2 that requires installing a root certificate from your VPN provider. Keep in mind that not every service supports IKEv2 so using this method depends greatly on your VPN service provider or employer.

First, download your VPN provider’s IKEv2 certificate to your desktop or somewhere else that’s convenient. Next, double-click on the certificate file and a security warning pops-up. Click Open.

On the next window that opens click Install certificate...

Now we’ve arrived at the Certificate Import Wizard. Select the Local Machine radio button and click Next.

On the next screen make sure to select the radio button labeled Place all certificates in the following store, and click Browse...

A smaller window opens with a folder tree. Select Trusted Root Certification Authorities and then click OK. Now we’re back at the Certificate Import Wizard window. From here click Next.

The hard part is over. On the next screen click Finish and then OK in the smaller window.

Now that the certificate is installed we can set up the IKEv2 VPN using the same step-by-step instructions above. Just make sure that you select IKEv2 under “VPN type,” and then use the server name, address, and username and password provided by your service provider.

Once you’ve connected to the VPN, check to see that your VPN is working by visiting IPleak.net. You should see an IP address, and DNS servers that are different from your non-VPN state. If you don’t, there are a number of potential causes that we can’t go into here. Your best bet is to check with your company’s IP department or the support service of your VPN.

However, one easy and common fix for IKEv2 problems is to right-click on your Wi-Fi or ethernet icon in the system tray, and select Open Network and Sharing Center from the context menu.  When the Control Panel opens click Change adapter settings on the left side, then right-click the name of your VPN connection and go to Properties > Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) > Properties > Advanced... > IP Settings. Check “Use default gateway on remote network” and click OK. Close up all the windows and try IP Leak again.

Step 1 Click the Start button. In the search bar, type vpn and then select Set up a virtual private network (VPN) connection.

Step 2 Enter the IP address or domain name of the server to which you want to connect. If you’re connecting to a work network, your IT administrator can provide the best address.

Step 3 If you want to set up the connection, but not connect, select Don’t connect now; otherwise, leave it blank and click Next.

Step 4 On this next screen, you can either put in your username and password, or leave it blank. You’ll be prompted for it again on the actual connection. Click Connect.

Step 5 To connect, click on the Windows network logo on the lower-right part of your screen; then select Connect under “VPN Connection.”

Step 6 In the “Connect VPN Connection” box, enter the appropriate domain and your login credentials; then click Connect.


Step 7 If you can’t connect, the problem could be due to the server configuration. (There are different types of VPNs.) Check with your network administrator to see what kind is in use—such as PPTP—then, on the “Connect VPN Connection” screen, select Properties.

Step 8 Navigate to the Security tab and select the specific “Type of VPN” from the drop-down list. You may also have to unselect Include Windows logon domain under the Options tab. Then click OK and Connect.

How to fix “The print spooler service is not running” Error in Windows ?

To solve this error, try the following steps.
  • Press “Window key” + “R” to open the Run dialog

  • Type “services.msc“, then select “OK“.

  • Double-click the “Printer Spooler” service, and then change the startup type to “Automatic“. This sets the Spooler service to start automatically when you restart the computer. Select “OK“.

If the Print Spooler service keeps stopping after your restart it, the problem is most likely related to corrupted printer drivers that are installed on the computer. Uninstall all printer software from the computer. This may include PDF writer or faxing software as well. Anything listed in the Control Panel under Printers & Faxes I would do away with. If there is any software installed for other printers in Add/Remove Programs.

How to disable automatic updates using Settings ?

Disablig all updates:-

Open Settings.
Click on Update & Security.
Click on Windows Update.
Click the Advanced options button.

Under the "Pause updates" sections, use the Pause until drop-down menu, and select the time range to disable automatic updates.

If you want to undo the changes, you can use the same instructions, but on step No. 5, choose the Select date option. Alternatively, you can click the Resume updates button from the Windows Update settings page.



Disabling security updates:-

In addition to temporarily disabling all updates, Windows 10 also offers an option to defer only quality updates up to 30 days.

Open Settings.
Click on Update & Security.
Click on Windows Update.
Click the Advanced options button.

Under the "Pause updates" sections, use the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page, and select the number of days that you want to defer quality updates.

After you complete the steps, your computer won't download and install monthly quality updates until the schedule reaches its limit, or you change the setting back to zero.




How to disable automatic updates using Group Policy ?

Open Start Menu. 

Search for gpedit.msc and select the top result to launch the Group Policy Editor.

Navigate to 
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update

Double-click the Configure Automatic Updates policy on the right side.

Check the Disabled option to turn off the policy.

Click the Apply button.

Click the OK button.


Limiting updates:-
Alternatively, if turning off the policy isn't working, you can also try customizing the Windows Update settings using the Group Policy Editor to limit the availability of updates on your computer.

To control Windows Update settings with Group Policy, use these steps:

Open Startmenu

Search for gpedit.msc and select the top result to launch the experience.

Navigate to path:
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update

Double-click the Configure Automatic Updates policy on the right side.

Check the Enable option to turn on the policy.

In the "Options" section, you'll find several options to configure automatic updates, including:
2 - Notify for download and auto install.
3 - Auto download and notify for install.
4 - Auto download and schedule the install.
5 - Allow local admin to choose setting.

Quick tip: The closest option to disable automatic updates is the 2 - Notify for download and auto install option, but you can select any other option that best fits your situation.

Click the Apply button.

Click the OK button.









How to disable automatic updates using Registry ?

Disabling updates:-  
Warning: This is a friendly reminder that editing the Registry is risky, if you don't do it correctly.

Open Start menu

Search for regedit and select the top result to launch the experience.

Navigate to the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

Right-click the Windows (folder) key, select New, and then click the Key option.

Name the new key WindowsUpdate and press Enter.

Right-click the newly created key, select New, and click the Key option.

Name the new key AU and press Enter.

Right-click on the right side, select New, and click the DWORD (32-bit) Value option.

Name the new key NoAutoUpdate and press Enter.
Double-click the newly created key and change its value from 0 to 1

Click the OK button.

Restart your computer.

  • Once you complete the steps, Windows Update should stop trying to download and install updates automatically on your device.

Limiting updates:-  
In the case that using the Registry to disable updates isn't working as expected, you can also use the Registry to customize the Windows Update settings to prevent updates from installing automatically.

Open Start Menu.

Search for regedit and select the top result to launch the experience.

Navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

Right-click the Windows (folder) key, select New, and then click the Key option.

Name the new key WindowsUpdate and press Enter.

Right-click the newly created key, select New, and click the Key option.

Name the new key AU and press Enter.
Right-click on the right side, select New, and click the DWORD (32-bit) Value option.

Name the new key AUOptions and press Enter.
Double-click the newly created key and change its value using one of the following options (number only):

2 — Notify for download and auto install.
3 — Auto download and notify for install.
4 — Auto download and schedule the install.
5 — Allow local admin to choose settings.
These options work like to the Group Policy settings, and number 2 is the closest option to disable Windows Update permanently. However, you can always select the configuration that best suits your situation.

Click the OK button.

Restart your computer.

You can always use the same instructions to restore the original settings, but on step No. 4, right-click the WindowsUpdate key, and select the Delete option. Then reboot the computer to complete applying the settings.

How to format any drive using Diskpart in windows ?


  • DiskPart is command tool that has been around even before Windows 10, and it allows you to use Command Prompt to manage drives, partitions, and volumes when other tools like Disk Management and Format won't work to fix the problem.


Important: Using these instructions will erase everything on the selected drive, and you can't undo the changes. If the drive is still accessible, it's recommended to backup your data before proceeding. If you have multiple drives connected to your computer, it's also recommended to disconnect them to minimize the chances of selecting the wrong partition.l


1) Open Start menu

2) Search for Command Prompt, right-click the top result, and select the Run as administrator option.

3) Type the following command to launch DiskPart and press Enter:
diskpart

4) Type the following command to list all the drives connected to your computer and press Enter:
list disk

5) Type the following command to select the drive that you want to clean and press Enter:
select disk 1
In the command, make sure to replace 1 for the drive number that you want to delete. If you don't do this step correctly, you could end up wiping out the wrong drive, as such proceed with caution.

6) Type the following command to wipe out the drive and press Enter:
clean

7) Type the following command to confirm the drive still selected and press Enter:
lisk disk
Quick note: The output should include an asterisk (*) next to the selected drive.

8) Type the following command to create a new partition on the drive and press Enter:
create partition primary

9) Type the following command to select the new primary partition and press Enter:
select partition 1

10) Type the following command to make the selected partition active and press Enter:
active

11) Type the following command to format the partition using the Microsoft NTFS file system and to set a drive label, and press Enter:
format FS=NTFS label=Data quick
In the command, remember to replace Data for the name of the drive that you want to see when using File Explorer. Also, the quick flag is optional, but if you don't use it, the format will take a long time.

12) Type the following command to assign a letter and make the drive available in File Explorer and press Enter:
assign letter=w
In the command, replace w with the drive letter that you want to use, and it's not assigned by another drive.

13) Type the following command to terminate DiskPart and press Enter:
exit

Once you complete the steps, if the drive didn't have any physical issues, it should be available through File Explorer, and you can begin storing files on it.
